With the times moving rapidly, I wanted to slow down and take the time to share this design I made roughly three years ago for the studio. In the beginning all I wanted to create was a Pint Gonzalez influenced skull on a 16×20 illustration board. After placing the skull and getting some input from the fellas here at the shop, the direction changed to a rollcall of the boys and all the countries they’ve hit.
Following the background lettering which was influenced from 80-90’s neighborhood gangwriting, I went ahead and threw in two different block lettering and drips. Really tried to give it that OG lowrider style for everyone supporting the movement. In the end I was really content with the outcome of the artwork, all done meticuluosly with fine-tip micron markers. Altogether a very entertaining project.
When I happen to show Jose Lopez the pattern, his first reaction – let’s go ahead and throw that on a shirt! Listening to him say with such enthusiasm made my whole day…scratch that, my year!! Thanks to all the our supporters who took part in making this shirt a very successful run. I truely believe that however much you put into anything that you do, in the end results, it will give it right back.
Much love to big-chief sosa Jose Lopez & all the brothers for collectively helping put together my first ever custom shirt design. More long-term collaborations dropping real soon, so be on the look out.
